Love is in the air: Tips for the perfect Valentines Day Picnic

So, you're planning on organising a Picnic for your significant other. Here's the all-important check list to help you create the perfect, most romantic picnic this Valentines Day.

AND... if you're hoping your partner is planning a perfect picnic date for YOU, then make sure you forward on this Blog entry on to them, so they've got alllll the hot tips!

WHAT'S YOUR STYLE?

What kind of picnic do you want this to be? Will this be an informal and fuss-free lunch time date? Or a romantic evening picnic soiree? Will you be setting up on a picnic table, or parking yourselves on the grass?

Which ever style of picnic you choose, stay true to what you and your partner enjoy. The clearer the vision, the easier it will be to execute all the decisions.

We have listed some picnic ideas below that we think are perfect options to elevate your Valentines Day Picnic.

  • Beach breakfast at sunrise (for you early risers out there)
  • High Tea/Morning Tea with scones & Jam, and Themo Tea
  • Cheese & Wine Tasting.
  • Charcuterie board (Get in touch with your local delicatessen to see if they can put one together for you)
  • DIY Tacos.
  • An evening Seafood spectacular.
  • S'mores by the fire.

PICK THE PLACE, BUT HAVE A BACK UP

Is there a location that has a special meaning to you both? Maybe where you had your first date? Or your favourite beach or park? What about organising a picnic under the stars, complete with fairy lights or lanterns, in your own back yard?

Having everything organised ahead of time (including the location), makes for an easy breezy picnic date. But an important part of organising the day, is having a wet-weather option, so don't forget this important step in the planning.

SETTING UP AHEAD OF TIME

Think about whether you will be arriving to the picnic location to unpack and set up together, or whether you will be setting the picnic scene prior, so that the picnic is a surprise.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED FOR THE PICNIC

Getting everything from the car to the picnic location can be quite the effort, so pack purposefully, but remember that on this special occasion, it's the smaller details that will help elevate this picnic from basic to beautiful (so don't forget the trimmings).

  • Picnic Rug or Blanket
  • Food & beverages
  • Condiments (sauces, salad dressing, salt & pepper)
  • Napkins (paper or fabric)
  • Paper towels & wet cleaning wipes (to mop up any spills)
  • Plates, bowls, cups & glasses
  • Cutlery & Serving utensils
  • If you're bringing wine, don't forget that bottle opener
  • Rubbish Bag
  • Don't forget the bug/mozzie spray

Elevated extras

  • Speakers (to listen to your fave tunes)
  • flowers
  • cushions (for comfort)
  • Battery operated fairy lights, or lanterns

SWAP THIS FOR THAT: ELEVATE BASIC TO BEAUTIFUL.

  • Swap out the plastic-backed picnic mats for a luxurious thick woven cotton rug.
  • Swap out those basic white paper napkins, for some pretty fabric ones
  • Forget the disposable plastic cutlery, and replace with your good/special occasion cutlery. (Remember, this is a special occasion, and no ordinary picnic).
  • Create mood by bringing along your portable speakers, so you can play your favourite tunes.
  • Add in some cushions to sit and lean on, making for an extra comfy picnic
  • Think about the addition of some fresh wildflowers (these can be picked from your garden), or even a single rose, to add that romantic touch.
  • Increase the magic: If the location allows it, how about stringing up some fairy lights, or placing some lanterns around your picnic to bring warmth and ambiance to the space.
  • BE IN THE MOMENT: Whilst we all love to capture our adventures and outings on our socials for the world to see, making a point to put the devices away, and enjoy the picnic experience without screens, is important to increasing connection, and making the most of this picture-perfect picnic you have put so much effort into creating.

..... and enjoy!
